Track and Field |
As you can see above (click on the picture) and below, we had tickets for two nights of track and field. (If the video doesn't work, try this link) We saw the Americans win gold, silver, and bronze in the 400m. We saw some truly incredible pole-vaulting and hammer throwing. And we saw Kansas native son run in the preliminaries for the 800m. (Christian is wearing black and has long hair)
The Bird's Nest stadium is truly amazing. Fom the red lights shining from within the structure, to its incredible size - China has done an excellent job with this national symbol. China also wins gold for making the Olympic attendees feel as though they were part of a unique and meaningful experience. I attribute much of this to the 6,000 volunteers working for the Olympics. For example, the evening we watched tennis, hundreds of volunteers lined up as the fans left the stadium. As everyone left, the volunteers cheered and waved and clapped - for the fans! At every turn were greeted with volunteers who couldn't seem to stop smiling. This kind of collective good feeling was everywhere on the Olympic green.

Do you think I could hire an Olympic volunteer crowd to cheer for me every minute of the day? Brushing teeth, woo! Woo, write that work email! Woo, drink your Sprite! I think it'd make my day a whole lot more awesome.
