I was reminded today of the song below by Tom Lehrer, "Pollution," as I walked through the thick soup of Beijing's air on the way to work. The BBC documentation is funny. 23 years ago I used to do essentially the same thing in Beijing -- look out my window every morning and rate the pollution 6-construction-cranes (lowest) to 0-cranes (highest) and plan accordingly.
